At MedCare Clinics, we’re privileged to offer the services of Nurse Practitioners. Nurse Practitioners hold advanced nursing degrees and can provide many services Physicians can offer (including examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, prescriptions, renewals) independently of Physicians. Furthermore, NPs that work along-side a Physician can expand their scope even further to provide you the range of medical services you may require, at any time. Having NPs as part of our team allows patients better access to fullrange medical care when you need it.

According to the CPSO, Physician Assistants are regulated healthcare professionals who provide a broad range of medical services as part of a healthcare team under physician supervision. They act as physician extenders to support existing services and improve access to care.

A PA’s scope is not identical in every workplace. It reflects the supervising physician’s scope of practice and is also limited by the PA’s own education, training, experience, knowledge, skill and judgment.

At MedCare Clinics’ walk-in clinics and family practices, a PA can help increase appointment capacity, reduce patient wait times, support continuity of care and allow physicians to focus on patients with more complex medical needs.

A Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated healthcare professional who has completed an approved baccalaureate nursing program and is registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

At MedCare Clinics our RNs can support patient intake, assessments, chronic disease management, vaccinations, wound care, test-result follow-up and patient education, helping improve clinic capacity and continuity of care.

An RN is not the same as a Nurse Practitioner and generally cannot independently diagnose conditions or prescribe medication unless they hold additional prescribing authority or receive the required order or delegation.

A medical directive is a written order authorized by one or more physicians. It allows appropriately trained healthcare providers to carry out specific treatments, procedures or interventions when a patient meets clearly defined clinical criteria.

Medical directives support safe, timely and team-based care. The authorizing physician remains responsible for the directive, while the healthcare provider must have the appropriate knowledge, skills and judgment to carry it out safely. This approach helps patients access care more efficiently while maintaining clear standards for supervision, documentation and accountability.
